How to Update your Social Media Profiles Simultaneously
Managing multiple social media channels can get tedious, repetitive and messy – remembering to cross post, to share across networks, to tweet and retweet… This can be even more tedious and exhausting when the content you want to post is the same across all your social media profiles.
Lockergnome has a great article on some of the best options to help you post updates to multiple social networking sites simultaneously. Here’s our review:
Ping.fm has been around for nearly 4 years and it has quickly become one of the most popular cross-platform social sites to post to multiple social networks at the same time. You can make an update on Ping.fm and it will be pushed to the social sites you’ve enabled. You can group those sites in three categories – status updates, blogs and micro-blogs.
Seesmic acquired Ping.fm back in January 2010 and they hinted that they may discontinue the service to force users to their own service – Seesmic Ping.

Seesmic Ping is the simplified version of Ping.fm.It is web-based with a strong emphasis on their suite of (beta) apps – currently available for iPhone & iPad, Windows Phone and Android. Seesmic will eventually become a paid service once the product is out of beta, according to the official Seesmic blog. It’s currently free, so if you’re looking for a multi-posting platform app, it’s worth a look.
Supported services
- Facebook and Facebook Pages
- Twitter (with the option of adding multiple Twitter accounts)
HootSuite is a “social media dashboard” that can also be used as a Twitter client. HootSuite is free for individual users who want to use up to 5 social profiles. However, if you require more then you’ll have to upgrade to the Pro membership which offers more features, such as a tweet archive, statistical analysis, Google Analytics integration and much more. HootSuite is also the first cross-posting app that integrates Google+; however, that option is currently only available for Pro users.

ifttt (short for ‘If This Then That’) is a new Web-based service that lets you link your favourite web apps together and create automated combinations called recipes. You can either create a recipe to suit your needs or use one of the several recipes already created by the ifttt community. For instance, you can create a recipe that says “if I get a new Twitter follower, send him a welcome tweet”, or “if I post a new Google+ post, post it on Twitter too”. With the several services you can link to your account, the number of recipes you can create are pretty much endless – especially since new services are added regularly. Take a look at some of the best ifttt recipes collated by Lockergnome – or sign up at ifttt and have a look for yourself. Hence, if you’re looking for a close alternative to Ping.fm, ifttt may be your best bet.
